Thesis (M.A.)--Royal Roads University (Canada), 2010.
The purpose of this project is to identify ways to improve coordination efforts within the United Nations framework currently in place in Haiti. The research is about organization dynamics and intra/inter-organizational conflict in an integrated mission setting where its main objective is to bring peace and stability. The collapse of the headquarters directly affected coordination and exposed the flaws of the United Nations structures and processes in place. I will first assess the effectiveness of the coordination structures and tools used in response to the recent disaster, including the structures that were in place prior to the earthquake. Deriving information from perceptions of the organizations involved, the study will reveal any shortcomings or successes of the coordination architecture. The research will attempt to find the organizational values, structures and communication tools that are most relevant to the current situation, and will expose critical elements which will improve future coordination.
