Thesis (Psy.D.)--The University of the Rockies, 2010.
Job satisfaction has repeatedly been studied and has been linked with many positive repercussions in the workplace to include retention, increased employee well-being, and positive outcomes for organizations. This study defines the concept of professional well-being, which combines the constructs of job satisfaction, work stress, and burnout, and evaluates the effect of vacation days upon all measures. The way employees spend their vacation time was also explored. Findings include a significant relationship between vacation length and job satisfaction, a significant relationship between active vacation and both job satisfaction and burnout, and a significant relationship between vacation days allowed and turnover intention. Significant differences were also found between groups with differing amounts of vacation on measures of professional well-being.
