Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2010.
The rationale behind this program was to locate a prospective funding source and to write a grant to develop a program designed for children who have experienced psychological and/or physical trauma due to gang violence. An in-depth literature review was conducted that highlighted risk factors (individual, family, peer, school, and community) associated with gang involvement, as well as prevention programs designed to combat these hazardous acts. The proposed program addressed these acts through an after-school dance program. Examining multiple after-school, art-based programs produced several funding opportunities. The Durfee Foundation was selected as the most appropriate funder for the program, and a grant was written for the after-school dance program. The actual funding and/or submission of this grant were not requirements for the successful completion of this academic project.
