This study reviewed the opinions of elementary school teachers on the subject of recess. The researcher evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of recess for elementary school children based on social, academic, and behavioral development. The researcher utilized a questionnaire, interview, and data collected from the Tennessee Report Card for 2007 to conduct the research. Based on the teacher responses from the questionnaire and telephone interview, teachers value recess and believe there are far more advantages to having recess. In the opinion of the elementary teachers who participated in this study, recess positively affected students in the areas of behavior, academics, and social development.
