This study examined the effects of phonological awareness and print referencing treatments on the early literacy skills of children with language impairments. It was hypothesized that children who received the phonological awareness treatment would demonstrate improved phonological awareness skills, while the children who received the print referencing treatment would demonstrate improved early literacy and phonological awareness skills. The results were consistent with current research, in that both forms of treatment were successful. In addition, it was found that the print referencing treatment also led to an improvement in phonological awareness skills, as predicted.
