Surveys were mailed to 135 Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) secondary teachers in a total of 70 schools. Thirty-five teachers completed the 47 question survey of quantitative and open-ended questions regarding their schools, programs, professional involvement, concerns, and predictions.

520 $a Schools in this study are located in urban and suburban settings with total enrollments of 2,000 to 3,600 students of primarily Hispanic and Asian descent. All teachers hold a single subject credential; some have earned additional certifications in specialized areas. All content areas of FCS are taught. A total of 45 career pathways are offered across 22 schools and are primarily in the areas of food service, child development, and fashion design. Teachers need more administrative and monetary program support; some predict and fear programs will close or offer occupational programming only.
