In the work below I take a post-comparative philosophical approach to the understanding of the human predicament as the conscious condition. The two points of orientation in this quest are the modern phenomenon of antinatalism, and the much older theory and practice of Daoism. I most emphatically do not declare an equivalence between the two, but rather investigate the important coincidence of ideas that naturally emerges when we study them concurrently. While it can easily be seen that antinatalism is a radical departure from ordinary modes of philosophizing, the radical strand of Daoism studied here has mostly evaded scholarly detection. Nonetheless, a meaningful dialogue emerges between the two that centers on a radical critique of consciousness. Far from regurgitating traditional acclaim for human consciousness, both antinatalism and Daoism view this uniquely human faculty as the ultimate disruptor of the non-human. More than theory alone, both propagate a praxis of return that is projected to not only repair the damage done, but to restitute the cosmos as it was before the ascent of consciousness and the concomitant advent of humankind. As mere palliative efforts are deemed ineffective and inadvertently destructive, both antinatalism and the radical strand of Daoism investigated here herald in the tragic end of the human species as the ultimate solution to the human predicament as the conscious condition.
