Self-help skills are an essential skill that many children begin to develop at an early age. In children with autism, there is often a deficit seen in daily living skills and self-help, such as bathroom routines, mealtimes, and dressing skills. One of the dressing skills that is challenging amongst children with autism is tying shoelaces. Video modeling has been seen to aid in the learning process of self-help skills in children with autism. The purpose of this study is to use video modeling from point-of-view (POV) to teach children with autism how to tie their shoes. Three participants between the ages of 8 and 12, with prerequisite fine motor skills, took part in the study. The results indicate that POV video modeling was not completely successful in teaching the participants how to tie their shoes, however, presents as a potential intervention that can be used to teach shoe tying. Future steps include increasing the intervention time, engaging in full error correction procedures, and using multiple methods of learning to increase acquisition of skill.
