The primary purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the grammatical function, syntactical range, and interpretive utility of the Greek verb ἕλκω in the NT. The exegesis and interpretation of the texts where this verb occurs offer a foundation for the Johannine doctrine of soteriology. Also included in the analysis are hermeneutical and philosophical considerations as these relate to the primary function of the study. These considerations include an analysis of established systems of theology, that are not necessarily supported syntactically or exegetically by the text, and which hence sometimes skew theological conclusions.
