While the existence of women serving as deacons and deaconesses is found throughout Baptist history, the matter has been subject to intense debate and inconsistent practice. This dissertation supports the inclusion of women in diaconal ministry by interpreting relevant Scripture passages, exploring the use of women deacons in church history, and considering modern examples of women in diaconal service. By surveying current Southern Baptist pastors and women deacons, this dissertation provides an implementation framework for the local church desiring to include women in diaconal ministry within a complementarian context.
