This dissertation posits that pastors can combat egocentrism in modern American Christianity by utilizing the doctrines of the bondage of the will and soli Deo gloria in preaching and soul care with the telos of affecting theocentric change. This work applies a combined methodology of historical theological development, systematic theological treatment, hermeneutical analysis, and applied theological analysis. It is argued that pastors are placed strategically to combat the egocentrism the modern self has brought into American Christendom. This work concludes that pastors effectively can combat egocentrism through preaching and soul care utilizing the prescribed Reformational doctrines.
