Spiritual formation is an increasingly popular topic within the modern evangelical church, however, many of these approaches to spiritual formation are based on mysticism, individuality, and secular models. Additionally, the Petrine epistles are often overlooked for their value in spiritual formation, discipleship, and spiritual growth. Peter expounds a unique, simple approach to spiritual formation that arises from the believer's identity in Christ as they pursue holiness, expecting Christ's return. Peter's approach to spiritual formation does not follow a model or a series of steps. Rather, Peter is focused on the intentional effort that Christians put forth to confirm their election, grow in holiness, and eagerly anticipate the glory to come.
