This paper documents the creation of an immersive theatrical experience titled Only Miracles, which is the thesis project for Director and Writer Dodd Loomis' Master of Fine Arts at Tulane University's Department of Theatre and Dance. The show is the result of nine semesters of research and study conducted at Tulane and showcases the use of documentary, site-specific, and immersive theatre techniques to honor the memory of two Holocaust survivors, Ed and Helen Lefkowitz. The show consists of three parts: an immersive experience in a 200-year-old synagogue sanctuary, a large-scale projected digital museum, and a reflection room for audience members to participate in thoughtful discussions about the experience. The goal is to engage the audience mentally and emotionally by embodying well-researched stories of the survivors, providing a unique and impactful perspective on the Holocaust.
