This thesis analyzes curriculum design through an iterative process. From the planned curriculum to the curriculum in action, my revision process required a method of using each to inform the other. Based on reflection and revisions I ultimately designed a 17-week thematic unit plan that took into account my findings and expanded on my original planned curriculum. The thematic Unit Plan explores relationships through art, based on personal memories. The final project entails an accordion style memory book that explores the memories of an important relationship chosen by the student. At its core, my iterative design process required deep reflection of teaching which is necessary for creating an effective, student centered curriculum. I analyzed documentation drawn from video recordings of my teaching and student work. In addition, I examined literature in the art and design education field and my personal teaching experience to inform the curriculum. Both the literature and reflective analysis highlights culturally relevant teaching through contemporary art and building trust in the classroom.
