This dissertation argues that a biblical theology of creation is an important axiom for communicating the gospel to Buddhists in Southeast Asia. It argues that cosmology is a primal bridge for engaging the Buddhist worldview and explaining the Christian gospel. It argues that for Christians to better relate the gospel to Buddhists in Southeast Asia, evangelists must emphasize a biblical theology of creation in gospel presentations. Chapter 1 introduces key issues of sharing the gospel among Southeast Asian Buddhists, offers definitions of key terms, and states the thesis for this dissertation. It highlights a dialogical method for contextualization that explores a Buddhist's understanding of the cosmos and the process of introducing them to a biblical worldview of creation. It describes previous methods and strategies of contextualization among Buddhists in Southeast Asia. Finally, it defines a Buddhist worldview and identifies four aspects of the Buddhist worldview to engage throughout the dissertation: Honor/Shame, Relational Hierarchy, Holistic Perspective of the Spiritual and Physical Realms, and Fear/Power.Chapter 2 shows how one's cosmology affects his or her worldview. It specifically describes the concept of creation in both Buddhist and Christian teaching. It discerns how these views of creation affect the soteriology of both religions. It then applies both views of creation to the four aspects of the Buddhist worldview defined in chapter 1: Honor/Shame, Relational Hierarchy, Holistic Perspective of the Spiritual and Physical Realms, and Fear/Power. This section demonstrates the practical importance a biblical theology of creation has on a Buddhist in Southeast Asia.Chapter 3 reveals the Christian's evangelistic responsibility to see a worldview change in the lives of those with whom they are sharing the gospel. It highlights how a biblical theology of creation is important when seeking worldview change in a Buddhist. This chapter presents three elements of a biblical worldview of creation and its influence on a Buddhist's understanding of their need for Christ: Creation and the Nations (Genesis 1-11), Creation and Christ (Col 1:15-20; Heb 1:1-4), Creation and New Creation (Rev 21:1-8). This chapter then applies these elements to the four aspects of worldview defined in chapter 1--Honor-Shame, Relational Hierarchy, Holistic Perspective of the Spiritual and the Physical, and Fear-Power.Chapter 4 then applies a theology of creation to practical gospel-sharing tools. It assesses both "Creation 2 Christ" and "Three Circles" as gospel presentation tools. It then offers examples of these tools to show how missionaries might use these tools to provide further focus on a biblical theology of creation. This chapter concludes by applying these amendments to the four aspects of worldview defined in chapter 1--Honor-Shame, Relational Hierarchy, Holistic Perspective of the Spiritual and the Physical, and Fear-Power. The goal of this section is to reveal the importance of communicating a biblical theology of creation to Buddhists when presenting the gospel.Chapter 5 concludes this research with a synopsis of the dissertation and recommendations for further research. It notes that this dissertation has two main implications. First, it observes that a biblical theology of creation helps evangelists better emphasize worldview and worldview transformation among Buddhists. Second, it observes the importance of evaluating methods and tools used when sharing the gospel among Buddhists in Southeast Asia.
