Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) provides a versatile tool in the clinical diagnosis and treatment recommendations for cardiac disease and dysfunction. CMR provides a noninvasive imaging modality that does not expose the patient to ionizing radiation, which is important for chronic diseases that require repeatable diagnostic screening. CMR has a variety of techniques that can provide both anatomical and functional information of clinical value and is a key area of interest for development towards better cardiac medicine. In order to be implemented in the clinical setting, a novel technique requires a robust study design in order to confirm the accuracy and precision of the candidate Magnetic Resonance (MR) biomarker. However, there is not always a suitable "gold standard" model to compare a novel technique to. One solution is to utilize known or expected dynamic response in the formation of a hypothesis. Dynamic response dependent study designs can include execution of a single experiment under unique conditions to acquire the dynamic response of a tissue model or exploiting the expected dynamic properties of a cine dataset for training a Deep Neural Network (DNN) on an imperfect dataset with noise and artifacts. Both qualitative and quantitative measures for the analysis of images are used in CMR. Quantitative measurements are more desirable than qualitative interpretation with less subjectivity, but quantitative techniques are often more complex and time consuming. For example, an experienced reader typically examines regional wall motion qualitatively. Strain imaging can produce quantitative, objective results for wall motion abnormality, and such assessment has been theorized to precede visual evidence. With recent advances to strain-encoded CMR (SENC), acquisitions can be performed in a comparable amount of time to standard Cine technique with sufficient temporal resolution without artifacts from respiratory motion or arrythmias. In this thesis, dynamic changes in strain between resting and dobutamine-induced stress will be assessed to determine if they precede invariant qualitative visual wall thickening from cine images.Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has seen less prolific implementation for several implementations due to its inherent length, which disproportionally affects CMR due to cardiac and respiratory motion. Inadequate control or correction of motion results in artifacts that compromise image quality and render non-diagnostic images. A common technique for this is the use of a directed breath-hold (BH), as this eliminates artifacts from respiratory motion. However, people who are referred for CMR may have comorbidities that may render them incapable of a BH for the required duration of a scan. Each acquisition is typically acquired under separate BHs, which requires geometric registration in order to account for inter-BH variance. Various techniques have been developed to reduce scan duration. Pre-scan calibrations are time-consuming but rarely considered for scan time reduction due to conventional single-acquisition per BH. Some pulse sequence families are more robust against certain pre-scan calibration errors than others. In this thesis, we propose a method that bypasses time-consuming pre-scans and implements a multi-acquisition single-BH Balanced Steady State Free Precession (bSSFP) Cine and Spoiled Gradient (SPGR) Tag by bypassing select pre-scans.
