This study examines how task conflict impacts communication effectiveness and team satisfaction, exploring the influence of individual differences such as personality traits and task-specific efficacy. Using pickleball teams as a model for transient and goal-oriented project teams, participants were randomly paired across seven matches, completing post-match surveys to capture experiences and perceptions. Results revealed a clear negative relationship between task conflict and both communication effectiveness and team satisfaction, with communication effectiveness mediating this relationship. Effective communication was found to enhance satisfaction and buffer against the disruptive effects of conflict. However, neither pickleball efficacy nor neuroticism significantly moderated these relationships, likely due to limited variability in the sample. These findings highlight the importance of fostering strong communication and conflict resolution strategies to maintain team cohesion and satisfaction, even in informal and recreational settings. This study underscores the utility of sports teams as a model for understanding broader team dynamics.
