Performance testing is an essential part of training programs, enabling practitioners to monitor and assess progress across a wide range of performance-related metrics. In addition to evaluating the present performance of an individual, performance testing can be employed to predict future ability, monitor post-injury recovery, and assess an individual's preparedness to return to play after injury. The sport of Volleyball is characterized by intense bursts of activity involving multidirectional accelerations, decelerations, jumps, sprints, and dives, and as a result, tests assessing Change of Direction (COD) ability and Counter Movement Jump (CMJ) performance are frequently utilized. While the force plate has been established as the criterion standards for CMJ tests, a criterion has not emerged for COD assessments due to the difference in physiological requirements between drills. In addition, the criterion standard for CMJ tests may not always be available to practitioners due to access or familiarity. The purpose of this dissertation was to 1) evaluate the agreement of common COD ability test, 2) evaluate the agreement of common jump testing devices, and 3) explore the utility of new technology for collecting data more effectively. Study 1 evaluated the relationships of commonly used COD test (T-test, L-drill, and 5-10-5 shuttle) in Division I female volleyball players. The results indicated the T-Test to be the superior assessment of COD ability as it demonstrated significant correlations to both the L-Drill and 5-10-5 Shuttle as wells as reported the highest correlation value to the composite COD score. Study 2 evaluated the agreement of three devices assessing vertical jump performance with the criterion reference force plate system. The results indicated that none of the tested devices for jump height were deemed equivalent to the criterion, but the APP showed a minimal mean difference and narrow 95% CI, suggesting it could be a credible substitution for the force plate system; likewise, for mean power, while none of the studied devices were considered equivalent to the criterion, the LPT displayed the smallest mean difference and could be employed for mean power measurement when required. Finally, Study 3 compared the agreement between a motorized sprint resistance device (MSRD), timing gates, and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) for total time to complete and peak velocity achieved during a commonly used change of direction drill in elite female volleyball players. Study 3 suggest that while the MSRD is suitable for time measurement in linear and COD tests, caution is advised when comparing velocities obtained across systems.
