Transition metal chalcogenides as a burgeoning family of materials host a rich collection of quantum states ranging from superconductivity to 2D magnetism. The delicate interplay of Coulomb interaction, spin-orbit coupling, crystal field splitting, and Hund's rule coupling within these chalcogenides gives rise to emergent quantum phenomena, advancing our comprehension of correlated and spin-orbit coupled effects in transition metal oxides. This thesis delves into our recent endeavors across two primary research domains. The initial segment is devoted to unraveling emergent quantum states in transition metal chalcogenides. The emphasis will be placed on elucidating the unique chiral-orbital-currents (COC) state discovered in Mn3Si2Te6, which underpins an unconventional colossal magnetoresistance that occurs without apparent magnetic polarization and that is extraordinarily sensitive to small applied currents. The second part explores the manipulation of quantum states through innovative external stimuli. The highly correlated nature of the transition metal chalcogenides along with their more extended electron orbitals and reduced electronegativity make the ground state exceptionally susceptible to external stimuli that couple to the lattice, which is evidenced in Mn3Si2Te6 and the 2D ferromagnet Cr2Ge2Ge6.
