This thesis explores the intricate relationship between economic growth and climate change in China. The first paper develops a dynamic general equilibrium integrated assessment model (DGE-IAM) to analyze the impact of climate change on economic growth in different regions of China, highlighting the potential temperature rises and welfare benefits of implementing interventions to reduce carbon emissions. The second paper delves into endogenous technological changes to explore strategies for optimizing social welfare, mitigating climate change, and transitioning to green development in China. It compares the outcomes of different solutions, emphasizing the importance of R&D investment in green technology for sustainable development. Lastly, the third paper focuses on the economic impacts of heat waves in various climate zones in China, emphasizing the importance of considering climatic heterogeneity in analyzing the effects of extreme weather events. Together, the thesis consisting of three research papers provides valuable insights for policymakers in China to address climate change challenges while promoting sustainable economic growth.
