This study examined key Bahamian external events and their influence on the development of generational cohorts within The Bahamas and investigated whether Bahamians and Americans share any comparable experiences of the external events used to identify the generational cohorts as defined in the United States. This study was centered around the conceptual framework of generation theory and generational cohort theory. It used a qualitative research approach of a phenomenological nature to analyze the actual lived experiences of the participants. Two major themes emerged regarding the shared experiences of major external events among Bahamians during their formative years: Health Concerns and Political Movements. Comparisons of Bahamian and American experiences revealed similarities and differences in the major external events experienced. Overall, this study lays the foundation for analyzing and understanding the generational dynamics within The Bahamas and provides insight into the broader cross-cultural analysis of generational cohorts.
