As lunar lander missions become more and more popular, it is important to start to filter out landing sites that do not line up with mission requirements. Not only is the filtering of those zones important but looking to ensure that there is a reasonably sized area around the viable spots to land. These requirements can range from slope of terrain, durations of lunar night, and telecom requirements. Thankfully, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has provided much needed data to determine these terrain-based factors, especially for zones such as the South Pole. Simulations using NAIF's SPICE toolkit will be used to determine any celestial vectors necessary, and it will be used on top of the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) data to provide general maps of regions of interest to determine if a zone is viable within a certain mission time-window. A customizable input file will allow users to put in the start and stop time for the scenario, specific latitude/longitudes to create the shape of the landing zone, and parameters that will contribute to telecom, power, and deployment windows. The output will be parquet files that help show regions of the zone that will result in longer survival. The outputs of this toolkit will help future lunar missions to look for suitable landing zones quickly and effectively.
