The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between servant-leadership and organizational commitment (affective commitment), paying particular attention to the roles of gender, age, ethnicity, level of education, job position, years employed with the federal government, salary, and federal agency of employment, among current federal government employees. This quantitative study used survey research methodology. A convenience sample was drawn from the larger population of current federal government employees I have access to through personal and professional networks. Data from the study participants (n=88) were obtained through two separate instruments: The Servant-leadership Scale (SL-28) and the Three-Component Model (TCM) Employment Commitment Survey, along with selected demographic questions, included in one online survey containing a total of 57 questions. Responses were analyzed to determine (a) perceptions of servant-leadership among my sample of federal government employees participating in the study. (b) at what level is organizational affective commitment present within the federal government, among my sample of federal government employees participating in the study; (c) is there a statistically significant difference in the perceptions of servant-leadership in terms of demographic variables (a) gender (b) age (c) ethnicity, (d) level of education; (e) job position, (f) years employed by the federal government (g) salary, and (h) agency of employment, among my sample of federal government employees participating in this study? Although the convenience sampling method was suitable for me as a researcher, it limited the population of federal government employees throughout multiple organizations. A larger sample size generalized to one federal government organization's employees may have uncovered a different end result. Second, a large majority of the sample identified as a cultural group that may not be representative of other ethnicities. Third, of the 88 participants, the bottom four scores on the Servant-Leadership survey correlated (Pearson = 0.99) with the top four part of the Affective Commitment survey. Consequently, the study shows a considerable discrepancy between federal government employees' affective commitment levels and their perceptions of their own leadership shortcomings. Nonetheless, the results of the study did point to a significant relationship between affective commitment and the behavior component of servant-leadership.
