Thesis (Ph.D.)--Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2023.

This dissertation is a biblical and theological study of descents and ascents. First, the writer reveals an existing descent-ascent pattern in Genesis 1-11. Then, he demonstrates how the event at Bethel (Gen 28:10-22) inverts this pattern and eschatologically foreshadows God's plan to restore creation. Finally, he examines Jesus Christ's quotation of Gen 28:12 in John 1:51. When interpreted in light of the descent-ascent pattern in Genesis, John 1:51 proclaims Christ's death on the cross opens the gate of heaven for the renewed Israel to ascend with the Son of Man into heaven.
