Thesis (Ph.D.)--New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, 2023.
The purpose of this dissertation is to assess the unique relationships between the Leicester Codex and other MSS in the NT MS tradition. Written in the fifteenth century, the Leicester Codex (LC) is a MS that contains parts of every book of the NT. In this study, the starting hypothesis is that the LC is closer textually to MSS outside of Family 13 in the Gospels and to MSS that do not contain Byzantine text type in Acts, the Paulines, General Epistles, and Revelation. This dissertation explores this hypothesis in five chapters. In chapter 1, I delineate the purpose and method for the study. In chapter 2, earlier research done on the manuscript and studies done within the field of manuscript studies are highlighted. In chapter 3, I discuss the paleography, codicology, and paratextual items in the LC. In chapter 4, the results of the Quantitative Analysis., which proved the hypothesis to be false, are given. In chapter 5, I present data on the style of the scribe, Emmanuel. Data on the style are found in the original hand corrections located in the margins of the LC, the types of variants created by Emmanuel, and the use of nomina sacra throughout the manuscript. Finally, in chapter 6, I offer conclusions from the study and confirm the uniqueness of the manuscript due to its paratextual features, location in England, and contents of the entire New Testament.
