Thesis (M.A.)--The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2023.
Objectives: This study attempts to determine the effects NCAA Division I graduate transfer student-athletes have on team culture. Methods: Participants (12 Division I student-athletes at UNC-CH) were chosen from varsity programs that were shown as high influx teams for graduate transfers within the past few years. Participants who agreed to be in the study, completed an interview containing eight chronological and structured open-ended questions. Results: Participants showed that graduate transfer student-athletes have positive, negative, and neutral effects on team culture through tangible and intangible themes. Conclusion: Results also provide groundbreaking research on graduate transfers and the term culture used within intercollegiate athletics.
