This study aimed to explore inclusion, perceived importance, and perceived value of occupational safety training (OST) within secondary education career and technical education (CTE) programs among current administrators/coordinators of a secondary education CTE school program. It further aimed to obtain insights into whether schools have resources to support OST initiatives and to investigate the degree of safety familiarity of current administrators/coordinators of a secondary education CTE school program. In general, this study found a gap between the OST benefit that current CTE administrators/coordinators believe should be provided and what public CTE secondary programs are providing to students. There is a perception of less sufficiency of funding to support OST as a separate, stand-alone course in trade-specific curriculum as compared to inclusion of OST as part of existing trade-specific curriculum or inclusion of OST via the 10- hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration Outreach Training Program. The two skills/knowledge identified as most beneficial were (1) personal protective equipment, considered the least effective of the control measure, and (2) general concepts of hazard recognition. Of all the skills/knowledge topics investigated by this study, current CTE administrators/coordinators identified safety audits as having the lowest implementation score. The study also found that current CTE administrators/coordinators have overall poor familiarity with well recognized safety concepts and statistics concerning young workers, including the importance of OSHA's General Duty Clause.
