Youth throughout the United States have been experiencing a mental health crisis, with Latino youth being less likely to receive mental health services. The increase of youth suicide raises great concern for all youth and particularly for Latino youth. The purpose of this graduate project was to develop and disseminate an educational referral pamphlet that contained information on suicide warning signs and expectations when referred for a crisis assessment to be distributed to families. The project was translated in Spanish so that it could create access to the information for the Latino population, but also aid in breaking down negative stigma towards mental health that this population holds. The need to tackle stigma surrounding mental health services in the Latino population is only one of the many implications found. There is a need to recruit and train Spanish-speaking social workers to meet the need of this underserved population. And as we begin to meet the needs of this population by creating new initiatives, we will need to research and evaluate the actions and interventions.
