The inaugural staging of the Miami Grand Prix Formula One motor racing event was an important addition to the Miami-Dade County sports tourism landscape. This study examines the impact of this mega sporting event on the overall performance of hotels in Miami-Dade County. The focus is on the metric occupancy, how many rooms were sold and RevPAR, how much revenue was generated in comparison to the total number of rooms available.The objective of the study is to identify and define the role and significance of the Formula One Grand Prix motor racing event in Miami on the performance of the hotel industry in the region. The study explores some of the economic implications of Formula One motor racing events in Miami and the possible potential socioeconomic growth prospects of such events.The findings of the study are beneficial not only to academics but importantly provides valuable, applicable insight to industry practitioners and those involved in legislative affairs with responsibility for crafting public policy surrounding sports tourism.
