This study examines Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and Frankenstein's significant influences on Moby-Dick and Pierre by comparing and contrasting the characterizations of characters and thematic developments. This study finds that Melville draws extensively on Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, and Wuthering Heights. Melville's artistic renderings are both his insightful readings of and literary responses to these works. In turn, the comparisons and contrasts with the works of these female writers help illuminate the meanings of Moby-Dick and Pierre. This study establishes the connections between Moby-Dick, Pierre and the representative works of Charlotte Bronte and Emily Bronte. It contributes to the existing comparative studies of Frankenstein and Moby-Dick. The uncovering of the complicated literary connections between Melville and these British female writers contributes to the evaluation of nineteenth-century literary connections across the Atlantic. Melville's portrayals of Ishmael, Pierre and their doubles both echo the British female writers' characters and display distinctive Americanness. Moreover, these characters carry universal meanings.
