Many African American youth are raised in single-parent households. Researchers have suggested that African American single parents experience various stressors that negatively impact their well-being, parenting practices, and children's behavior. Because of that, there has been a negative stigma surrounding African American single-parent households. This study's findings are intended to dispel some negative connotations regarding African American single-parent households. The study was conducted to understand how middle-class African American single parents overcame single parenting stressors to create well-being for themselves, which positively impacted their children, as this population has been underrepresented in the existing literature. The study's target population was male and female middle-class African American single parents between 35 and 55 years of age with an annual income between $50,000 and $100,000. The sampling strategy used to select the co-researchers was purposeful sampling. The seven co-researchers selected to participate in the study were middle-class African American single-parent men and women between the ages of 35 and 55 who believed they possessed a sense of well-being and felt they had raised thriving children. The study's research question was, what is the nature of well-being among middle-class African American single parents who potentiated well-being for themselves while in pursuit of raising thriving children? The methodology used for the qualitative study was heuristics. With this heuristic study, the researcher used her experiences and data collected from the co-researchers to understand the essence of their personal experiences related to being middle-class African American single parents who potentiated well-being for themselves while in pursuit of raising thriving children. The data was collected by conducting audio-recorded interviews via Zoom Videoconferencing. Self-awareness and tacit knowledge were used to identify similar and different themes and patterns that emerged from the data. A creative synthesis was generated from the themes and patterns that articulate the nature of well-being among middle-class African American single parents who potentiated well-being for themselves while in pursuit of raising thriving children. The findings highlighted how the co-researchers' self-efficacy, modeled behavior, and instruction, vital components of the social cognitive theory, assisted them in creating well-being for themselves.
