The semiconductor industry continuously seeks ways to improve productivity and efficiency system-wise. During production, uncertainties such as chain deficiency and machine failures and maintenance may cause unnecessary system downtime, which affects production in various ways ranging from resource wastage and financial loss. In the thesis, a case study of a semiconductor manufacturing system is applied as one example of efficiency improvement. The production planning considering process uncertainties is evaluated using a discrete event-based simulation model. The investigation suggests that the downtime caused by material shortage on a manual assembly is significantly mitigated with the optimal plan, which creates a paradigm of industry application for mitigating the uncertainties affecting system efficiency and financial loss.
