This master thesis work was created in collaboration with the winemaker association Grasevina Croatica from the Croatian winemaking region Slavonia and Danube. The goal was to assess the situation and create a further development strategy for wine tourism. The region is rich in cultural and natural heritage; however, it struggles with a weak economy. The region is the most producing wine region in Croatia, having some of the biggest wine producers but also some smaller. Until recently tourism, in general, wasn't considered in the region, so there are initial struggles in the development that have to be addressed.To provide a better understanding of the topic to the reader first was done the overview of selected topics in regional wine tourism development. Then the text continues with the secondary research of the general tourism market and general Croatian situation in the economy, tourism, and wine industry, focusing on the region. After the desk research, the information about the situation was gathered by interviewing representatives of wineries, tourist boards, and other stakeholders involved in the regional wine industry. After gathering all of the data, the summary was done with SWOT analysis, which resulted in strategical pillars, which should be focused on. The thesis finish with action steps, which are a better explanation of the strategical pillars.
