The objective of this dissertation is to present an "Instructional Video" accompanied by a corresponding "Reference Study Guide." These instructional materials outline pertinent information about Ney Gabriel Rosauro, D.M.A., along with an in depth performance analysis of his Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra. Dr. Rosauro is one of the most prominent percussion composers today. His Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra has been performed by over 400 orchestras world wide. Along with his arrangements for piano reduction and percussion ensemble, this work has become the most performed marimba concerto this decade, thus making this composition and its composer significant topics of study. Unfortunately, many percussionists have neither performed or studied a marimba concerto. Therefore, instructional materials are necessary for the profession to evaluate a given work and its composer. Students, pedagogues and performers who have access to an "Instructional Video" and an accompanying "Reference Study Guide" pertaining to this concerto, can perform, study and instruct their students with greater knowledge and confidence. These instructional materials cover three major areas of study: (1) an in depth interview with Dr. Rosauro, which consists of his compositional influences, writing style, personal thoughts on his concerto, and biographical information; (2) a detailed performance analysis of the solo marimba part to this concerto; and (3) a complete performance of this work. Combining the "Instructional Video," and "Reference Study Guide," allows the student to hear and see this work; and to gain greater insight to the technical demands of this composition, as well as the intent of its composer.
