Villa-Lobos' Segunda Sonata-Fantasia for Violin and Piano (1914) is a work that is still surprisingly not a part of the standard, traditional violin repertoire, and not performed as often as the other violin sonatas from the same period.This study focuses on the violin part of the sonata and suggests fingerings and bowings not present in the only edition of the piece, in order to provide a pedagogical resource for performers. This document also highlights the misprints, discrepancies, and wrong notes in the violin part of the Max Eschig edition using the manuscript by Ivan Azevedo found in the Villa-Lobos Museum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as reference. A general and brief analysis of the structure of the sonata is also provided through tables of each movement. At the end of the document, an appendix with the discrepancies in the piano part is also presented.
