Based on 15 months of fieldwork (2015-2017) in central Argentina, my doctoral dissertation draws from political ecology accounts of articulations of race, nature and nation to investigate: a) the workings of whiteness in and through agroecological projects; b) the racialized ways vulnerability to agrochemical contamination is produced; and c) the communitarian economy upon which Bolivian farmers manage fresh vegetable production in Argentina. My work centers on Bolivian migrant farm labor and the mainstream agroecology movement in Argentina in order to illuminate racialized contours of agricultural production and chemical exposure. I argue that mainstream agroecological responses to agrochemical contamination are indifferent to the labor and unequal exposure to toxicity of farmworkers who fall outside national and ethnic identifications. Such erasure has been historically constructed and its implications are twofold: a) the agroecological project risks reproducing racialized structures of land distribution conducive to soy territorialization; and b) the agroecology movement omits key collaborations with agricultural actors for the construction of just food systems. By accounting for race, nature and nation as critical variables that determine access to land and exposure to agrochemicals, my work pushes debates around the political ecology of food and agriculture beyond over-simplified narratives about agribusiness-vs-agroecology and toward agroecology as a decolonial praxis for socio-environmental transformation.

520 $a Basada en 15 meses de trabajo de campo (2015-2017) en el centro de Argentina, mi disertacion doctoral adopta el enfoque de la ecologia politica sobre articulaciones de raza, naturaleza y nacion para investigar: a) el funcionamiento de la blancura en y a traves de proyectos agroecologicos; b) las formas racializadas en que se produce la vulnerabilidad a la contaminacion por agroquimicos; y c) la economia comunitaria sobre la cual los agricultores de origen boliviano manejan la produccion de vegetales frescos en Argentina. Mi trabajo se centra en el trabajo agricola migrante boliviano y el movimiento hacia la agroecologia en Argentina para iluminar los contornos racializados de la produccion agricola y la exposicion a sustancias quimicas. Sostengo que las respuestas agroecologicas dominantes a la contaminacion agroquimica son indiferentes a la exposicion laboral y desigual a la toxicidad de los trabajadores agricolas que quedan fuera de las identificaciones nacionales y etnicas. Tal borrado se ha construido historicamente y sus implicaciones son dobles: a) el proyecto agroecologico dominante corre el riesgo de reproducir estructuras racializadas de distribucion de la tierra favorables para la territorializacion del modelo sojero; y b) el movimiento de agroecologia omite colaboraciones clave con actores agricolas para la construccion de sistemas alimentarios justos. Al considerar la raza, la naturaleza y la nacion como variables criticas que determinan el acceso a la tierra y la exposicion a los agroquimicos, mi trabajo impulsa los debates en torno a la ecologia politica de la alimentacion y la agricultura mas alla de los polarizados debates sobre agronegocios vs. agroecologia y hacia la agroecologia como una praxis descolonial para la transformacion socioambiental.
