Employee Engagement has become a popular construct within Business and I/O Psychology due to the financial benefits organizations gain from having engaged employees (Harter, Schmidt, & Hayes, 2002; Schaufeli, Bakker, & Van Rhenen, 2009; Xanthopoulou, Bakker, Demerouti, & Schaufeli, 2009). To increase employee engagement, researchers and practitioners have looked at increasing one's fit with their organization and job. This dissertation examines the roles of person-organization fit and various aspects of person-job fit (needs-supply fit, demands-ability fit, and self-concept job fit) in increasing employee engagement. The study also follows previous research in investigating the meaningfulness as a mediator in the relationship between the different types of fit and engagement. Findings support person-organization fit, needs-supply fit, demands-ability fit, and self-concept job fit as significant predictors of employee engagement. However, meaningfulness was found to partially mediate these relationships, indicating that the different types of fit have both direct and indirect effects on employee engagement.
