Bioarchaeologists often focus on human remains from archaeological sites with a large amount of material remains or elaborate architecture, and a single research question at the population level. They publish data far less often on small sites or at an individual level, focused on human skeletal remains. This research explores skeletal markers of biological identity at the individual level to better understand sites in the Cibola region, which is a branch of the Ancestral Pueblo in Northwestern New Mexico. The 34 burials observed for this thesis come from small sites in the Red Mesa Valley (AD 850-100) and at Village of the Great Kivas (AD 900-1200). Following an Indigenous archaeology perspective, permission was granted by the Zuni Tribe to observe the human remains. The products of this thesis consist of individual osteobiographies including a 'technical narrative' which describes the skeletal characteristics in detail. A 'conversational narrative' was also written for each burial that includes general terms that are accessible to non-anthropologists. The main purpose of this thesis is to explore the lived experiences of individuals to provide information that is useful and accessible to both tribal communities and biological anthropologists.
