This study explores the experience of four Chinese international students who are studying in the United States of America. It focuses on their literacy, language, and new media practices for their schoolwork and for their own social and cultural purposes. Using qualitative case study methodology, this research provides an indepth view of the Chinese international students' personal and social lives and their school literacy practices. I reveal how most of their afterschool time is spent online for studying, for entertainment, and for social purposes. Transnational literacies and identities are also a major part of their new media use, as the Chinese international students use social media as a major way for them to receive information and keep contacts with new and old friends. In addition, I discuss the perspectives of the students' on the differences between China and the U.S. in terms of education, new media and new digital devices. Overall, the language, literacy and new media practices of the students sheds light on the lives of transnational and transcultural students, and how technology mediated globalization facilitate the international education.
