Artists are often faced with the choice to forgo their creative careers in order to reach financial stability and sustainability. With this pattern, the public's access to new ideas and creative works is hindered as artists are forced to stop creating art to make money. While there currently are various ways for artists to receive support for their careers, these avenues often are insufficient. Profit maximizing businesses and not-for-profit organizations provide vital support for artists' careers, however there is a significant number of needs that goes unmet. Alternative business models can address and fill the gaps within the existing support structure of artists. This qualitative study presents a modified action plan of a social business plan that can be implemented to enhance the support structure for artists and increase the visibility of art to the public. The research is based on Critical Theory, utilizing the writings of Theodor Adorno, Max Horkheimer, and Walter Benjamin. Critical Theory provides key points supporting the relevancy of study. The action plan utilizes Muhammad Yunus' Social Business Theory. The Three Sphere Theory is used to examine the structure of the art industry. These three theories - Critical Theory, Social Business Theory, and The Three Sphere Theory - are linked to conceptualize the presented problem and offer a solution with a modified action plan. Primary research included focus groups with artists at various career levels and interviews with managers in each sector. The findings were used to develop a business plan for a social business in the arts -- Art Habit.
