During this study, I explored how conservative evangelical church leaders affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention address the pursuit of holiness. Qualitative interviews were conducted with a group of evangelical church leaders then examined from the frame of reference of and using concepts central to the discipline of systemic studies. Such ideas as paradox and double binds in communication embedded within the presentation, interpretation, and application of Christian Scripture are explored, as exemplified in the responses of conservative evangelical church leaders, including the researcher as a participant observer in this study. Within this study, I offer a deeper understanding of how these communication pathologies are addressed in fostering transformative change in the process of facilitating epistemological realignment central to evangelical work.
