This study reviewed and analyzed some major aspects and issues regarding education and educational administration in China. It also discussed particular managerial theories that have been used in education and educational administration. It also discussed particular managerial theories that have been used in education and educational administration. The intent of the study was to apply and adapt selected educational theories and practices that had been popular in the United States to education and educational administration in China.
520 $a In the examination of the theories and practices of general management and educational administration, the writer outlined the development of some major managerial theories in social sciences from which most of educational theories have evolved. Practices in Chinese educational administration were presented to serve as a basis on which western managerial theories and practices were applied. Upon the discussion of both the managerial theories and the Chinese practices, propositions regarding the adaptations of some western educational theories and practices were explored.
520 $a A descriptive analytical approach was used in the study as the major methodology to explore the research topic. Logical argument and exposition was also employed. The presentation and analysis had been based on the author's educational experience in both China and the United States. Visits were paid to Chinese schools, and informal talks regarding current practices in China's education and educational administration were used in the analysis as background resources. Specific illustrations and suggestions were presented concerning the adaptation of particular theories in light of Chinese culture and practices.
