The effectiveness of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy of global adult beverage supply chains was assessed by examining the sustainability score as an efficiency measure across 10 distinct global adult beverage supply chains or decision making units (DMU) using data envelopment analysis with cross-efficiency using tax as a dual role factor of input and output. The results conclude that the weight of the metrics in the CSR strategy of the company can be optimized retrospectively and used for prospective modeling towards achieving higher sustainability efficiency scores. A major finding outlined in the research conducted was the discriminate strategy pursued by 2 DMUs, 4 and 6 for which a cross-efficiency score of 1 was obtained, indicating more effective CSR metrics and consequently a superior sustainability strategy. After review of the results, it is contended that sustainability strategy of a company can be defined as a deliberate corporate strategic agenda towards all its stakeholders that promotes and adopts sound ethical conduct, socio-economic, fiduciary, and environmental practices in its business model to sustain and restore value to its entire value chain. In the case of firms who obtained higher cross-efficiency scores, the definition of sustainability drove their strategic mindset and their sustainability strategy was superior demonstrated by a top down approach from the mission, values, value proposition, and cultural context maintained to drive a sustainability strategy. Further the results also conclude the organizational definition of sustainability, the use of this definition in crafting the company mission, values and culture are crucial discriminatory traits of companies with higher sustainability efficiency scores. This definition can be seen to reside in the approach taken by companies that obtained higher sustainability score under DEA cross-efficiency measurement of their CSR metrics.
