This research study examined the lived experiences of human resource professionals and their perception of service providers' emotional intelligence and ability to manage emotions and stressful situations that could provoke stress and burnout. Given the increase in occupational stress and burnout in the hospitality industry, it is important for organizations and their human resource departments to become aware of behaviors that could influence workers' ability to cope with emotions in the workplace. This study used a phenomenological design with face-to-face, semistructured interviews. A sample population of 20 human resource professionals was selected due to their strategic role within the organization and their perceptions of the emotional climate and managing the needs and demands of employees versus those of the organization. Analysis of the results revealed a relevant relationship between the perceived level of emotional intelligence in service providers and their ability to express, regulate, and utilize emotions to effectively manage difficult situations that cause emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, lack of personal accomplishment, and burnout.
