Through global reconfigurations, South-South cooperation now compliments the existing North-South development paradigm. This volume explores the dynamic processes that have resulted in the repositioning of Africa, from the periphery of world politics and economics on to the centre stage. However, not all academics and policy makers from around the globe believe that this transition has indeed taken place. The authors critically assess the compelling factors that undergird the title of the book while allowing space for a debate on this relatively new subject of academic discourse. It includes�innovative contributions�on the BRIC constellation, medical tourism between Africa and India, Indian Ocean region and the littoral states, and civil society perspective on South b6 sSouth cooperation from an African perspective.
