This research was related to the Special University Linkage Consolidation Project (SULCP) sponsored by CIDA and implemented jointly by the University of Regina, Canada and the Educational Institute of Jilin Province, the People's Republic of China. It consisted of a survey on gender equity in education as perceived by forty-two in-school administrators (referred to hereafter as participants) in Jilin Province, the People's Republic of China.

520 $a The purpose of this research was (a) to identify in-school administrators' awareness of gender equity in education; (b) to identify perceived barriers to gender equity in schools as perceived by in-school educational administrators; and (c) to identify strategies for modifying current educational administrative training practices in order to accommodate a gender equity orientation. The result of the survey was analyzed and comparisons were made between the two gender groups and the two age groups of the participants.
520 $a The findings of this research revealed that all the participants believed that men and women should be equal. However, the data identified that the participants varied in their understanding of gender equity in education and many of them were, in fact, gender blind. The research also indicated that traditional gender stereotype and bias were still prevalent in the People's Republic of China and were more harmful to girls. There was no significant difference either between the two gender groups or between the two age groups in their understanding of gender equity in education. A number of change initiatives were proposed to develop gender equity in education.
