This experiment investigated the relationship between the Logical Memory (LM) paragraphs of the Wechsler Memory Scale-III and the updated Morris Revision (MR) stories for alternate form reliability. The importance of alternate forms is to control for practice effects of repeated administration in clinical neuropsychological assessment. The premise of the study anticipated high correlation and low variance between the two sets of paragraphs. To establish similarity between the different testing materials, each paragraph was analyzed for readability and linguistic compatibility. Participants consisted of fifty-six college students with no significant age difference between males and females. Before administration of the paragraphs, the participants were informed of their rights, the taping of responses, and confidentiality of participation. A tape recorder administered the test paragraphs and recorded participant responses on a single-subject basis. Results indicated a high correlation yet a significant difference between the Total LM score and the Total MR score. Further exploration revealed that the MR1 story was significantly different from all other stories after post hoc comparisons. To conclude, the results of the experiment failed to establish alternate form reliability for the LM and MR paragraphs by not achieving a high correlation and low variance between the total paragraph scores. The statistically different paragraph (MR1) may require modification in order to achieve the desired equivalency among all paragraphs.
