The importance of maize consumption in Late Woodland southern Manitoba is examined using stable carbon isotope analysis. The $\ delta\sp{13} $- $1 9.2 $\ pm $ 1.5 $\ perthous $, n = 28) do not support significant maize consumption in most individuals, although four ( $\ delta\sp{13} $- $1 7.7 $\ perthous $ to $- $1 4.0 $\ perthous) $ show tentative evidence for this. $\ delta\sp{13} $- $1 7.6 $\ pm $ 2.2 $\ perthous, $ males: $- $1 9.6 $\ pm $ 0.6 $\ perthous). $ This is argued to be the result of intermarriage of a local group with another people consuming a $\ sp{13}
